Consultation in EMDR Basic Training
Consultation is where training turns into practice. The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) requires 10 hours of consultation as part of every EMDR Basic Training, and they're included in the fee for our November 2026 virtual training.
What consultation covers
EMDRIA describes consultation as individualized guidance on applying EMDR with real clients, including case conceptualization, client readiness, target selection and treatment planning. You'll bring your own EMDR cases, get feedback, and learn from other clinicians' cases.
What's included
10 hours of small-group consultation with EMDR Consulting's consultants, included in your registration (a $250 USD value).
Sessions are held online in small groups sized to EMDRIA's ratios, for example up to 6 people for a one-hour group.
When and how
Consultation begins after the live training days.
You book sessions from EMDR Consulting's consultation calendar in your account, up to three months ahead, and space them to fit your caseload.
Cancel at least 24 hours ahead to avoid a late-cancellation fee.
Finish all 10 hours, plus the EMDRIA learner assessment, within 12 months of your training start date.
Beyond the 10 hours
Extra group hours are available at $25 USD per hour, and individual consultation is available at each consultant's rate.
Consultation during Basic Training doesn't count toward EMDRIA Certification, which needs 20 more hours with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. See Training vs. Certification.
Consultation with Kyle
Kyle Poon, R.Psych, is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. He offers consultation for clinicians working toward EMDRIA Certification, Consultants-in-Training, and anyone building their EMDR skills.
Individual consultation: $235 CAD, plus applicable taxes.
Group consultation: please ask about options.
