EMDR CONSULTATION FOR CLINICIANS
Consultation for EMDRIA Certification
You’ve finished EMDR Basic Training and want to become an EMDRIA Certified Therapist. Consultation is where that happens: you bring your EMDR cases, get focused feedback, and build the skill and confidence certification asks for. Kyle Poon, M.Ed., R.Psych, is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Approved Trainer and offers consultation online to clinicians worldwide.
What EMDRIA Certification requires
As of October 2026, the path to EMDRIA Certification looks like this:
- Complete Basic Training. Finish an EMDRIA-approved Basic Training, and hold a full licence for independent practice.
- Build experience. At least 2 years in your licensed field, and at least 50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 clients.
- Complete 20 consultation hours. With EMDRIA Approved Consultants after Basic Training, at least 10 of them individual (groups can’t exceed 8 people; up to 15 hours can come from Consultants-in-Training).
- Earn 12 EMDRIA Credits after Basic Training.
- Apply. Include a recommendation letter from an Approved Consultant and two letters from peers.
The 10 consultation hours in Basic Training don’t count toward these 20. EMDRIA updates its standards, so check EMDRIA’s certification page before you apply. For how training and certification differ, see Training vs. Certification.
What we work on
- Case conceptualization using the Adaptive Information Processing model
- Choosing targets and planning treatment
- Preparation and resourcing, especially with complex trauma and dissociation
- Getting stuck or blocked processing moving again
- Staying faithful to the standard protocol while adapting to the person in front of you
- Reviewing live content and sessions from your work
Bring de-identified cases and your questions. Sessions are practical and focused on your actual caseload.
How it works
- Online by secure video, for clinicians worldwide
- Individual consultation: $235 CAD per hour, plus applicable taxes
- Small consultation groups (up to 6 clinicians) are available, and group hours can count toward up to 10 of your 20 hours. Contact Kyle for current groups and pricing.
- You’ll get documentation of your hours, showing dates and individual vs. group time, as EMDRIA requires. When you’ve met the requirements, Kyle can write the Approved Consultant recommendation for your application.
Fees are in Canadian dollars. You can verify Kyle’s credentials in EMDRIA’s directory, and see all consultation options.
Common questions
Can I work with more than one consultant?
Yes. Each consultant documents their own hours.
Do hours from before Basic Training count?
No. They need to come after Basic Training and within the five years before you apply.
I’m already certified. What’s next?
