Online EMDR Therapy in Edmonton
KP Psychological is an Edmonton-based psychology practice. We offer EMDR and trauma-focused therapy by secure video to adults across Edmonton and the surrounding area, from St. Albert and Sherwood Park to Spruce Grove, Leduc and Fort Saskatchewan.
Our practice was founded by Kyle Poon, M.Ed., R.Psych, an EMDRIA Approved Trainer and Consultant who has used EMDR for over 10 years. You meet with us from home or another private space, with no drive and no waiting room.
What EMDR therapy is
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps your brain process disturbing memories that feel stuck. While you briefly bring a memory to mind, you follow eye movements on screen, tap gently, or listen to tones that alternate between your ears. The aim is for the memory to be stored more like an ordinary memory, so it feels less vivid and less charged.
EMDR is recommended for PTSD by the World Health Organization, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense (VA/DoD), NICE in the UK and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). The American Psychological Association conditionally recommends it.
In this short video, Kyle explains EMDR in about a minute.

Why online EMDR can suit life in Edmonton
Online sessions fit around Edmonton life in a few practical ways:
- No commute or parking. There's no drive across the river at rush hour, and no hunting for parking downtown.
- No winter roads after a hard session. After working through a difficult memory, you can rest at home instead of driving on icy roads.
- More privacy. There's no waiting room where you might run into a colleague or someone you know.
- Easier to fit into your week. Kyle sees clients Tuesday to Friday, 10 am to 6:30 pm, and Marissa sees clients on Mondays and Thursdays.
Before any memory work, we help you set up a quiet, private space and agree on a safety plan, including what happens if the call drops. Our online EMDR in Alberta page explains what the research says about EMDR by video and what you'll need.

Common questions
Do you have an office in Edmonton?
KP Psychological is based in Edmonton, but all our sessions are online by secure video. You join from home or another private space, so there's no commute, parking or waiting room.
Can I see you if I live outside Edmonton?
Yes. We see adults anywhere in Alberta, including St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Leduc, Beaumont and Fort Saskatchewan. We also see clients in Calgary and across the province. You need to be physically in Alberta at the time of each session.
How many EMDR sessions will I need?
It depends on what you're working on. NICE suggests EMDR for PTSD typically takes 8 to 12 sessions, and more if needed, for example after multiple traumas. Preparation comes first, and its length varies.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
Not to see us. Some benefit plans need a referral before they'll pay, though, so check your plan before your first session.
